REYTA Finalist Just Beverley shortlisted nominee o2 community publication award 2017

Beverley Buzz Comedy Club brings four very different styles of comedy to Beverley.

Headliner Alex Boardman will showcase his usual utter hilarity and promises a storming set about the worrying hidden signs of growing older. Brummie legend Lovdev Barpaga cannot resist daft wordplay, and cheerfully chuckles at his own jokes: Lovdev was voted “UK Pun Champion 2017”. Stella Graham is a naturally funny and lively entertainer, and her half Sri Lankan heritage gives her a candid view of topical British issues. John Lebbon is a former Rugby League player from Cumbria whose startling stories are inspired by the discomforts of having to return, albeit temporarily, to live at the parental home.

As ever, the night is compered by resident wit Agraman the human Anagram, aka John Marshall, who was awarded the Les Dawson Award for promoting live comedy in the North West in 2005.

Beverley Buzz Comedy Club runs quarterly in the Hayward Theatre at Parkway Cinemas, Flemingate Shopping Centre, Armstrong Way, Beverley HU17 0PW   Doors and bar open at 6.30pm for a start time of 7.30pm prompt.

To reserve your preferred seats, get advance tickets priced at £10 (£9) for the show on Sunday 28th July: these are available online from  or via the Box Office on 01482 968090.  It is also possible to pay on the door on the night.

With four different styles of comedy, there is always something to press everyone’s chuckle button. Hosted by Agraman the human Anagram (aka John Marshall), the shows are motivated by comedy and not profit, although it is true that some of the acts John has ‘discovered’ have gone on to be household names – Bill Bailey, Harry Hill, Stewart Lee, Catherine Tate, Reginald D Hunter, Russell Kane, Ross Nobel,  Sarah Millican and ‘pun-slinger’ Tim Vine to name but a few. You never know if the acts you enjoy at a Buzz Comedy Club gig will go on to be the stars of the future – Lucy Beaumont was a John Marshall discovery, too!

To be in with a chance of winning the tickets, all you need to do is answer the following question:

In 2005, John Marshall was awarded a prestigious award named after one of the UK’s favourite late comedians. Who was that comedian?

Send your answer by e-mail to by July 17th. Put Buzz Comedy in the subject box with your answer, name, address and day-time telephone number in the body of the e-mail.

The winner will be chosen at random on July 18th and informed as soon as possible. Winner/s must be available for publicity purposes for Just Beverley, Parkway Cinema and Buzz Comedy. There is no cash alternative.

Competition - win a meal for 2 at Mirage

Sit outside or in; enjoy a meal at breakfast, lunch or in the evening; savour delicious coffee, wine or beer or indulge in a cocktail or enjoy a sweet treat with delicious home-made cake or Yorville ‘made on the farm’ ice-cream. Mirage, as the name conjures up, is adult-oriented, classy and cool, yet relaxing and welcoming: Mirage’s concept takes vision, which is down to the proprietors, Nicola and Ali Tecke.

The ambience of Mirage lends itself to music – soft jazz, soul and ‘yacht’ music spring to mind – which is provided live by local soul man Sean Finch on a Thursday evening and The PJ Johnson Band on Fridays. Why not treat yourself to one of Mirage’s extensive range of cocktails to sip whilst enjoying the sounds? Mirage’s ‘happy hour’, which they call ‘Cocktail -o-clock’, operates between 5pm and 7pm Monday to Wednesday, all day Thursday and 10pm to late on Fridays when selected cocktails are available at £4 and jugs for £12.  Many of the cocktails are the invention of Bar Manager Yannis and that includes non-alcoholic versions, too, such as Lady Ella which is gin-based and Miss Ella which misses out the gin. One of Yannis’ favourite cocktails is ‘Spirit of Harrogate’ which is made with Slingsby rhubarb gin (which is made in Harrogate), fresh pomegranate, St Germain Elderflower Liqueur, lime, sugar and grapefruit juice – it sounds delicious!

You will always find a great welcome from the team at Mirage who will ensure your visit will not be your last. Find out more at and follow Mirage on Facebook and Instagram. Phone 01482 880600 Email:
Address: 8, Wednesday Market, Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire, HU17 0DG
