Free skills workshop for manufacturing businesses
Tue 7th January 2025Hull and East Yorkshire (HEY) Made Smarter Programme is hosting a free skills workshop for manufacturing businesses aiming to boost their digital skills.
The UK’s manufacturing sector is facing a severe skills shortage and the workshop, ‘Skills Agenda for the Manufacturing Sector’, will explore issues such as upskilling, staff retention and recruitment.
The event will help businesses build an understanding of the skills needed within the sector in Hull and East Yorkshire, and how barriers to accessing these skills can be overcome.
It will also discuss current provision across the region, including apprenticeships, internships and bootcamps.
Les Selby, HEY Made Smarter’s digital transformation specialist, said: “There is a severe skills shortage in the UK manufacturing sector which poses a significant challenge to its competitiveness and future growth.
“Compounding the issue is the industry’s struggle to compete with sectors such as technology and finance for digital talent, with many manufacturers reporting that acquiring digital skills has become increasingly difficult due to competition from higher-paying industries.
“This workshop seeks to support Hull and East Yorkshire manufacturing businesses to address some of these concerns; both in exploring issue of upskilling, retaining staff and recruit new staff.”
Skills Agenda for the Manufacturing Sector will take place on Tuesday 4 February at the Aura Innovation Centre, Bridgehead Business Park, Hessle, HU13 0GD from 9am to 1pm.
