East Riding Schools Join White Ribbon Campaign To Tackle Violence Against Women And Girls

Schools in the East Riding have obtained White Ribbon accreditation, signing up to the campaign to tackle domestic violence and abuse in the East Riding.

The White Ribbon campaign, a charity, leads the way on ending violence against women and girls by addressing the root causes of men’s violence against women. It tackles harmful attitudes, behaviours and systems around rigid gender norms and harmful expressions of masculinity, that perpetuate gender inequality and gender-based violence.

57 organisations, including our maintained schools, charities, and community groups from across the East Riding have obtained supporter and accredited status with the White Ribbon campaign, committing themselves to help tackle violence against women and girls (VAWG).

Two maintained schools that have recently endorsed their White Ribbon accreditation with East Riding Council; is Beeford and North Frodingham Primary Schools, whose recent Ofsted inspection found that pupils have a very strong sense of equality and fairness.

By becoming a White Ribbon accredited organisation, this will equip their children and staff with the necessary awareness to challenge and prevent violence against women and girls. The children can take these skills with them as they transition onto secondary school, and in turn, their adult lives.

Councillor Lyn Healing, East Riding of Yorkshire Council cabinet member for communities and public protection, said "We all have a role to play in tackling violence against women and girls, and it’s great to see these organisations sign up to play their part. I encourage interested organisations to find out more and join the White Ribbon campaign."
