More than 90 per cent of respondents to a local survey have expressed opposition to plans for the proposed Clean Air Solar Farm near Walkington, with concerns centring on the scale of the development, the loss of productive farmland and the cumulative impact of major infrastructure projects across the wider Beverley area.
Councillor Linda Johnson has been elected as the new Chairman at May’s Annual General Meeting. She takes over from Councillor Liam Dealtry.
Councillor Johnson has served as a Liberal Democrat councillor representing St Mary’s Ward in Beverley for the last seven years, alongside being a member of Beverley Town Council. She served as Town Mayor of Beverley (Chair of the Town Council) for two years, between 2021 and 2023.
During her year as Chairman, she has chosen to support two charities; East Riding Domestic Abuse Trust (ERDAT) which works with victims of domestic abuse, both men, women and children, within the East Riding, who need urgent monetary assistance after fleeing to a place of safety. Also, White Ribbon - the charity which works towards ending men's violence against women and girls by challenging its root causes of harmful misogynistic attitudes and behaviours.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Chairman’s Awards recognise the outstanding contributions of individuals, businesses, and projects that have made a significant impact on local communities.
East Riding residents are being encouraged to sign up to mental health and wellbeing support courses, to mark mental health awareness week.
A major new voluntary search and rescue initiative has been launched in the Humber region, bringing together emergency services expertise and community volunteers to help locate vulnerable missing people across the area.
