East Riding of Yorkshire Council is supporting Safer Internet Day 2019

Safer Internet Day 2019 is being celebrated in the UK on Tuesday 5 February, focusing on the theme of: ‘Together for a better internet’.
The aim of Safer Internet Day is to inspire a national conversation about using technology responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively. Coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre, the celebration sees East Riding of Yorkshire Council getting involved by helping to promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for residents in the East Riding.
East Riding Libraries and Adult Learning Centres are providing a variety of resources and information about keeping safe online and to support Safer Internet Day.

Short online Internet safety course
Designed by the Adult Learning team, this short online course will help make safer choices when using the internet.
The Little Book of Big Scams
Humberside Police are pleased to bring ‘The Little Book of Big Scams’, reproduced by kind permission of The Metropolitan Police Service’s FALCON (Fraud and Linked Crime Online) team.
'Surf' featuring Christian Foley - a short film for 11 to 14-year-olds
'Surf' is a music video featuring spoken word artist Christian Foley and dancers from the Street Factory hip hop studio in Plymouth.
Your Choice or Mine - film for parents and carers
Young people and their parents go head-to-head in a game show and are asked questions about consent online. Do parents and their children have the same or differing opinions on a range of online consent topics?
Short courses to keep people safe online
The council is also offering a range of workshops and courses at libraries and Adult Learning Centres which are offered free of charge to residents:
Recognising fake news and online scams course
In this digital age, we are bombarded with news stories, warnings and advertising, but how much of it can we trust? How confident are you that you can spot a hoax or a scam? This short course will look at simple ways of identifying hoaxes, including some quick ways of checking them out before responding or sharing.

Protecting yourself from cyber risks course
The Internet can seem like a huge and scary place. How do you know the real risks and what steps can you take to keep yourself and your family safe? On this short course, participants will be introduced to some of the most common risks and learn ways to mitigate them and will leave feeling more confident in their ability to use the Internet safely.
