Beverley Ac Celebrating Home And Away

It has been a very busy month for Beverley AC as they celebrate successes in several local events, including South Cave, Howden, Laxton and York as well as members travelling further afield to undertake challenges, both as individuals and as a team. What is particularly pleasing to see is that those taking part include those new to running as well as those with more miles in their running shoes!

Our first well done is to the running graduates of the Club’s inaugural 5K210K progression group. Following on from the success of the Couch25K group whose participants graduated in May, many continued and supported each other, and graduated at the Howden Town 10k event at the beginning of August, with other Beverley AC members there for additional support.

The Juniors, too, have been keeping busy, with lots of successes at local events! In the City of York AC open track and field event, U11 George, Alice and Nell ran well in the 600m with George also competing at 75m for the first time. Amélie ran well in 2 sprints over 150m and 75m, while Jacob, Lois (1st U15 girl), Hattie, Freddie and Zach all ran well over 800m. Zach also competed in the long jump. Hattie and Freddie (2nd U13 boy) both threw javelin well.

The juniors were also at the 4th and final Humber Open Series meeting of 2024, at Scunthorpe. Despite a relatively low turnout as many were on their holidays, those juniors who attended had a good day out with some incredible performances. Our youngest U11 athletes took part in a 600m-long jump-howler throw triathlon, where Addien was 2nd overall in the girls’ event, and George and Zach L. did well in the boys event. Phoebe and Zach S. took part in the U13 long jump, and also raced over 800m. Amelie completed 150m and 100m sprints, and Poppy raced the 300m sprint. Poppy and Milla, finally, raced 800m.

In the Northern Athletics Track and Field Championships at Derby, our Juniors were there representing Beverley and competing against the whole of the North of England. Poppy Simpson and Lois Pottage both ran the 800m in separate heats as time trials.

Back in Hull, at Ennerdale in the EHH Junior 3k series, Jacob Jorna finished 1st in 10:49, with Freddie Jorna - 11:50, and Fraser Pratt - 13:11. Well done everyone!

Beverley was represented in the final event of the Champagne League, where Dave Morrison won the V40 category, Kay Farrow won the F65 category and Sam Allen won the F50 category.

Sam Allen also won the overall yellow jersey female for the whole league. Many Club members enjoyed the challenge of the League and wish to extend thanks to City of Hull AC for organising and delivering this popular series of local races.

Several members take part in local Saturday morning parkruns, but some are now looking further afield, to enjoy their parkrun. Car-sharing ensures that we continue to meet our green targets. Venues have included Dalby Forest, Goole, Withernsea and Scunthorpe.

Over the summer holiday period, the Club has been delighted and proud to work with its designated charity, the Beverley Cherry Tree Centre, helping to deliver its’ Kids Holiday Club.

Members have attended sessions delivering athletic activities to those attending. It proved to be very popular and plans are being discussed as to how this can be further developed next year.

New members, whatever your age and fitness level, are always welcome and further details about the membership and what the Club has to offer to its members can be found on the Club’s website: https://www.beverleyathleticclub.co.uk.
