From breathtaking coastal scenery and rolling countryside to historic towns and unique local attractions, the Walking East Yorkshire Festival is set to return this September with an exciting programme of walks and experiences across the county.
Taking place from Saturday, 12 to Sunday, 20 September, the festival will showcase the very best of East Yorkshire, inviting residents and visitors alike to discover spectacular landscapes, fascinating heritage and hidden gems through a wide range of guided activities.
Now in its 16th year, the festival is brought together by tourism partners and volunteers from across the region. It is administered by Visit East Yorkshire and delivered in partnership with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
Designed for all ages and interests, the programme features scenic walking routes across the countryside and coastline, cycling trails, cultural tours, heritage experiences and food and drink discoveries.
Councillor Nick Coultish, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Tourism, said: "This fantastic festival showcases the very best that the East Riding of Yorkshire has to offer. I encourage residents and visitors to take part, explore the great outdoors and take advantage of the wide range of walks and experiences available this September."
The festival provides plenty of opportunities to experience some of East Yorkshire's most impressive coastal landscapes. Walkers can enjoy guided routes along sections of the King Charles III England Coast Path, including stretches between Flamborough and Danes Dyke, Hornsea and Mappleton, and the Spurn Point peninsula. Along the way, participants can take in cliff-top views and some of the county's most iconic natural scenery.
For those looking to immerse themselves in East Yorkshire's countryside, the festival includes the chance to tackle the Wold Rangers Way across four stages over four days.
Visitors seeking shorter adventures can join guided walks departing from Huggate, Millington and Fridaythorpe, each exploring sections of the renowned Yorkshire Wolds Way and its picturesque rural landscapes.
History lovers will have the opportunity to explore some of East Yorkshire's most beautiful country houses and gardens. Guided experiences at Birdsall House include refreshments and an informative tour, while visitors can also discover the history and surroundings of Wassand Hall and Gardens through expert-led tours.
A varied programme of walks in Beverley will shine a spotlight on the town's rich history and remarkable stories.
Guided tours will explore topics ranging from Beverley's Green Plaques to the life and legacy of Mary Wollstonecraft. Additional experiences include an exploration of the Quiet Gardens in Beverley and an insightful look at the War graves in St Mary’s cemetery.
The festival programme also features a variety of distinctive events celebrating East Yorkshire's heritage, culture and local produce.

- A guided walk and history talk exploring Stamford Bridge and the Stamford Bridge Tapestry
- A boat trip along the Pocklington Canal
- A walking tour uncovering the story of Georgian Goole
- A visit to award-winning vineyard Laurel Vines
- The popular Boots and Beer Walk, which includes a visit to Wold Top Brewery
- Guided walks along Hull's waterfront, revealing the city's maritime and cultural heritage
