Grand opening of Tickton Petanque Terrain
Tue 21st November 2023An event is to be held at the Recreation Ground, behind Tickton Village Hall, on 26 November to celebrate the grand opening of Tickton’s Coronation Petanque Terrain.
Earlier this year, with support from East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Active Communities Team, Tickton & Routh Parish Council secured funding from the Routh Wind Farm Community Fund, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Do it for East Yorkshire Fund, Dogger Bank Community Fund #DoggerBank and the Smile Foundation East Riding Community Action Grant.
This funding, along with donations from Wyke Millennium Lodge, FITTA Group, Tickton WI, the Warren and Whymant families and a number of residents, has been used to create a brand new Pétanque court for community use.
On Sunday, 26 November, from 11am – 3pm, the event will be open to people of all ages and abilities. There will be demonstrations of the sport and opportunities to give pétanque a try.
Howard Sinkler, Chair of Tickton and Routh Parish Council, said: “We are committed to providing additional facilities for our community. After consulting with our residents, we saw the need to build this fantastic new facility and are looking forward to hosting an event to show the community what we have and give them a chance to have a go!
“Local groups and residents are very excited to have this facility in Tickton, after seeing the success in other areas, and know this will benefit everyone in the community. This is another opportunity to see children and adults alike enjoying this new space. Another sporting facility on the playing field complements the outdoor exercise area and younger children’s play area - all designed to provide facilities locally for all ages to improve health and social wellbeing.”
As well as the opportunity to try petanque, the Village Hall has organised a cosy indoor Christmas Fair. Residents will be able to browse the Christmas gift stalls and tombola, enjoy hot drinks and try some cakes from Tickton WI. There will also be children’s crafts, and Santa will entertain the young ones and turn on Tickton’s Christmas Tree Lights.
