East Riding College is seeking new governors from the local community and business world.

The College already plays an important role in supporting the growth of the regional economy and works closely with employers to ensure local and regional skills needs are met. The Board of Governors particularly want to encourage local people with business experience to put themselves forward and hope to gain more representation from the north of the East Riding.

Simon Wright, Chair of the Corporation said: “We are keen to hear from motivated individuals with time to commit and an interest in education.  The successful candidates will serve for four years as members of our Board, playing a vital role in shaping the education of thousands of people of all ages every year.”

He added “The knowledge and experience governors bring to the Corporation are essential in determining the strategic direction of the College and I know our governors find it very rewarding indeed.”

Most governors attend 8-12 formal meetings a year but also have the opportunity to attend training, networking events and College events, such as staff conferences, learner focus groups and award ceremonies.

Governors meetings are held first thing in the morning or in the early evening, mainly at the Beverley campus. Although a voluntary role, members are encouraged to claim for travel and subsistence whilst on College business.
