Daniel Thwaites Inns acquire the Beverley Arms
Mon 29th February 2016Just Beverley was saddened to see that The Beverley Arms had to close its doors due to difficult trading conditions. The building is a former coaching inn, known as the Blue Bell Inn. Ideally situated on the turn-pike between Hull, Beverley and York, horses could be changed, fed and watered and the grooms and passengers could rest and dine in reasonable comfort . It was modernised in the 1700s to turn it into the Georgian building with further bedrooms and rooms built on as the hotel grew in popularity and use changed.
It's most famous guest is reputedly Dick Turpin, who stayed there before a court appearance in 1738. It also has a ghost!
Being in the centre of Beverley, it has seen many a business meeting, dinner dances, weddings, funerals and afternoon tea drinking.
It is therefore great news to hear that the building has already been snapped up by Daniel Thwaites Inns who will spend a significant sum of money on it before re-opening later in the year.
