East Yorkshire Mums Set Up At Home Craft Pack Business

Two East Yorkshire mums have set up a business providing parents and carers craft packs to keep young children entertained. 

Amy Stuart, a Nurse at Castle Hill Hospital, and Amy Greenwood, who works in marketing, initially set up ‘Play Projects at Home’ on Instagram at the start of lockdown to provide parents and carers simple 5-minute activities to help those running out of ideas and juggling with work and childcare.

Since then, the two working mums have built up a following of over 2,000 across Instagram and Facebook and have set up an Etsy shop selling three affordable craft packs designed to aid creativity and provide 5 minutes peace for those with young children. 

“Lockdown was and is an incredibly stressful time for parents and carers, with no outside childcare or help from grandparents and zero access to playgrounds or other activities which commonly help keep children busy and carers sane,” commented Amy Greenwood. 

“Our children are 4, 3, 20 months and 7 months – and as any parent to a baby or toddler knows, their attention span is minimal to say the least. In between watching Frozen on repeat and picking up a never-ending amount of toys and clothes strewn throughout our houses, Play Projects at Home was our way of sharing the simple crafts and games we were doing to help inspire anyone who might be looking for something new. We’ve created and run it mostly through an abundance of daily WhatsApp voice messages, so seeing the engagement on our social accounts and our craft packs starting to sell has been really rewarding.” 

“As lockdown continued, we got more and more feedback on our Instagram and Facebook from those enjoying the activities with their children, and we started to see there was an opportunity to provide small packs of craft essentials that could be used for all sorts of creative projects. We wanted to create packs that had everything you might need for lots of different activities, so we’ve included the basics such as crayons, coloured paper and glue sticks, alongside more exciting ’create and decorate’ projects and lots of stickers, gems and much more.” 

There are currently three packs;

• The Superhero Craft Pack
• The Princess Craft Pack
• The MEGA Craft pack

“The packs are fantastic as a treat for children, or as a gift for grandparents or friends to send to parents. It’s a micro, micro business at the moment but the aim is to build on these packs and create lots more variations, including smaller party bag sized packs.”
