Success for Jason Huby and Dogs Ruby and Hope!
Wed 30th October 2019Jason Huby, local businessman and dog agility handler, recently found out his dog Ruby had qualified to compete at the Team GB International Tour Final in March 2020!
There are a number of ways to reach the GB Squad, and this year one way was to accumulate points at 6 qualifying heats. Jason, who competes in blue, and Ruby only managed two heats but finished 9th overall and consequently qualified to run in the final at the UK Team GB Performance Weekend in March 2020 - it is from this final that the Team GB Squad is chosen.
Ruby is not new to success and recently finished fourth in a Championship Class Final that took place earlier this year at Weardale. To qualify for the final, Ruby competed against other grade 7 dogs (the highest grade) and came out in the top 20 combined results from two qualifiers held on the same day.
In other trials, Hope, also an agility dog who now sits at grade 5, was competing against grade 7 dogs and came out second only to a championship winning dog!
This year Ruby also qualified for the second year running for the Mixed Pairs Final, which was held at the ‘Discover Dogs’ event at the Excel Centre in London on 12/13th October.
Sadly, there are no champion-class trainers in the area, meaning Jason has to travel to Lincoln once, sometimes twice a week! Jason also travels to various locations around the country to train with top-level trainers. In a normal week, training costs, in addition to fuel and time away from work all add up, so funding Ruby’s and Hope’s progress is hard work. Jason is looking for sponsorship to cover the costs of training Ruby and Hope, if you think you can help - get in touch!
