There's plenty for all the family at Sewerby Hall and Gardens this Christmas

Sewerby Weekend Of Christmas

Sewerby Hall and Gardens has something for everyone over the Christmas holiday period.

Young visitors and their families can enjoy following the Naughty Elf Trail around the gardens - a naughty elf has escaped from Santa's workshop and is causing mischief! Visitors can locate the naughty elf and work out their festive message by downloading the Love Exploring app from Apple Store or Google Play for free.

In the zoo, visitors will be able to see a new arrival – a micropig, alongside all the usual favourites including guinea pigs, sika deer, capuchin monkeys, pygmy goats, raccoon dogs, degus, coatis, parrots, pheasants and the popular Humboldt penguins.

The house itself is beautifully decorated for Christmas, and also includes the festive exhibition, ‘The Making of Christmas’, looking at how the Victorians adopted ancient customs at Christmastime, and grafted on a few of their own to make the Christmas still enjoyed today. The house will be open from 21 – 23 December inclusive, and from 27 – 30 December inclusive.

The 50 acres of award winning gardens are open every day (except Christmas Day and Boxing Day) for the chance to walk off the festive food excesses, and visitors can look out for the wood carvings recently completed by Allen Stichler who has been transforming the wood from the monkey puzzle tree which fell in the severe weather of March, 2018 into new wood panels which are on display in the gardens at the venue. Each panel includes a phrase or saying by a well known person.
