Enjoy the East Riding countryside this autumn
Sat 5th October 2019East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s countryside access team has arranged a series of events this month to enjoy the best of the local countryside.
On Saturday, 5 October, join mycologist Caroline Hobart on a Fungi Foray at Eastrington Ponds Local Nature Reserve near Howden, from 10am -12.30pm, to search for fungi across the reserve.
The event will include a walk of one mile. Booking is essential. This event costs £3.50 for adults; £2.50 for adults over 60 and children/young people; and £9 for a family ticket (two adults and two children).
On Sunday, 6 October, there will be a Fungi Foray at Oakhill Nature Reserve, off Tom Pudding Way, Goole, from 10am -1pm. This will be a chance to help mycologist Caroline Hobart hunt for different species of fungi and learn more about their curious lives.
The event will include a walk of up to two miles around the reserve, and booking is essential, although the event is free of charge. Meet at the nature reserve car park.
Saturday, 12 October will feature orienteering at the Humber Bridge CountryPark, between 11am and 1pm. The event is aimed mainly at beginners, but there is also a course for more experienced orienteers. Electronic timing will be used for the event, which is organised by HALO, the Humberside and Lincolnshire Orienteers. Coaching is available from British Orienteering qualified coaches.
There is no need to book for this event, which costs £4 for adults; £2 for juniors; and £4 for a group taking part together. Pay on the day. Follow signs from the black mill on Hessle foreshore.
On Wednesday, 16 October, there will be a Water’s Edge Ramble along the banks of the Ouse, starting in the village of Hook, from 10.30am-1pm. The five mile walk will take in superb views on the bank top, and follow the network of footpaths back to the village. Booking is essential. This event costs £3.50 for adults; £2.50 for adults over 60 and children/young people; and £9 for a family ticket (two adults and two children).
