The popular Moorsbus service has returned for 2026, giving passengers from the East Riding and Hull the chance to enjoy the North York Moors, following a successful run last year.
Using funding allocated by the Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Hull City Council have once again committed to delivering the (M1) service, as part of their Local Authority Bus Grant Plans, alongside Moorsbus Community Interest Company (CIC) with a double-decker from East Yorkshire Buses.
Last year, 2,249 passengers boarded the M1, which ran every Sunday and Bank Holiday from the beginning of May through to the end of September, with 1,317 of those journeys originating from Hull and the East Riding.
Thanks to its popularity, Moorsbus CIC decided to extend the season this year by a month – which saw services start in April - and to include Saturday services, which means the M1 will run every Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday until Sunday 27 September 2026.
The M1 is a return service to the North York Moors and departs from Bay 23 at Hull Paragon Interchange, at 8.45am, stopping and picking up from Cottingham, Beverley, Driffield, Wetwang, Malton and Pickering. The M3 service then runs to the North York Moors via Kirkbymoorside, Hutton Le Hole and Danby.
For the return journey, passengers can use the M3 to get back to Pickering, with the M1 service starting its journey back to Hull, at 4.45pm, and getting passengers back to Hull Paragon Interchange for 7.03pm.
Councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, leisure, tourism and planning at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “I’m extremely pleased we’ve been able to jointly fund this popular bus service to ensure it returns for this 2026 season.
“This is another bus route that passengers in the East Riding and Hull can benefit from and explore what our neighbouring county has to offer.”
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “The return of Moorsbus to the city last year was a real success story, with the service proving extremely popular with our residents.
“As a council, we are delighted to be able to support Moorsbus again and that, thanks to customer demand, the service has been able to run an extended season and has been expanded to enable people to visit the North York Moors, by bus, on a Saturday as well.”
Bill Breakell of Moorsbus CIC added: “The return of the M1 service in 2025 was a phenomenal success and that is why we have added an extra month, new Saturday services and many new destinations on the network for the 2026 season.
“This repays the faith shown in us by the people of East Yorkshire and we'd also like to thank Hull City Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority for their ongoing support.”
While single and return fares will vary, depending on the start and return point of your journey, a Moors Rover ticket (adult) costs £10 and a Moors Rover ticket (child) costs £3.
All English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS) passes are also accepted.
