MIKE HARDING AND JOHN GODBER ENCOURAGE MUSIC-LOVERS TO SUPPORT BEVERLEY FOLK FESTIVAL

Beverley Folk Festival’s two distinguished patrons are wishing the event well and hoping the people of Hull and East Yorkshire will continue to support the event as it enters its 34th Year.
Acclaimed playwright John Godber has a long history with area, especially his time celebrated time with Hull Truck Theatre. The writer of such modern classics Bouncers, Up ’n’ Under and Teechers, John has been a supporter of the festival for many years and hopes that as an official Hull City of Culture partner, residents of the area and beyond will support it in 2017
He said: “By bringing together big national names and new local voices, Beverley Folk Festival continues to prove that folk music is very much alive. With nearby Hull enjoying its ground-breaking year as UK City of Culture, this much-admired festival is playing its part in promoting the very best music the region has to offer.”
Alongside big names from the folk genre, the festival is also engaging with folk clubs from across the region, which have been given a venue in which they can bring their own local artists to perform.
Matt Snowden, festival chairman, explained: “We want to continue providing the wide range of excellent music festival goers have come to expect, whilst also getting back to the basics of the genre by bringing its grassroots communities together.”
This is an approach John Godber welcomes: “Beverley Folk Festival celebrates a form of musical expression that is for the people, by the people and long may it last!”
Meanwhile, another patron of the event, the folk legend, poet, writer and comedian Mike Harding wants to make sure everyone who attends the weekend has a great time.
He said: “After thirty-four years and still not out, Beverley Folk Festival continues to offer followers of the genre, both young and not-so-young, a fantastic chance to get together, kick up their heels and have a damn good time!”
A familiar face at the festival, Mike also highlighted the on-going work organisers continue to do to promote, mentor and encourage young artists and hoped people would enjoy themselves: “With some of the finest young musicians on the scene performing alongside celebrated folk legends, this is a festival you’d be daft to miss. I hope everyone has a cracking weekend.”
Beverley Folk Festival 2017 will have at least 100 artists performing at the Friday to Sunday event, totalling a collective 100-plus hours of entertainment across multiple stages. With this range available, they hope there will be something for everyone with a few surprises along the way.

Martin & Eliza Carthy, Eddi Reader and her band, Jon Boden, Lau, Heidi Talbot, Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman, False lights, Andy Cutting, Jim Moray, The Hut People to name but a few!
