Countryside events this Spring in the East Riding

Spring has sprung in the East Riding, and what better way to celebrate the changing of the seasons than by immersing yourself in nature. The council’s countryside access team has a series of events to make the most of the longer and, slightly, warmer days across our beautiful county.

Enjoy the Sights of Spring with a birdwatching event at Humber Bridge Country Park Local Nature Reserve on Saturday, 22 April, 10am-12pm. What’s that beautiful bird? This morning, the answer may be buzzard or blue tit, chiffchaff or chaffinch. Now that spring has truly arrived, enjoy a wonderful walk discovering an array of wonderful birds across the woods and meadows. We’ll help you identify them, and you can pick up a few tips on using binoculars too.

All levels of knowledge and ability are welcome, and no questions are too silly! Bring binoculars if you have a pair, some will be available to borrow. This activity is led by Margaret Boyd, bird watching guide from Yorkshire Coast Nature and countryside officer Bev Hylton. Tickets are free and booking is essential. On Saturday, 29 April, 10am-12pm, join us at Millington Wood Local Nature Reserve for a Spring Woodland Birdwatch. Millington Wood is a perfect place to be surrounded by birdsong. Relax in the wood, and our guides will reveal the wildlife which we love and treasure. Join us on this short discovery walk, seeking out our familiar resident birds as well as newly arrived spring migrants.

How wonderful is it when birds are singing?
