Graham's Tour de Tickton celebrates new lifesaving equipment
Tue 13th September 2016On Saturday Graham Stuart MP led a “Tour de Tickton” to view the new defibrillators in and around Tickton by bicycle and to meet and congratulate those involved in providing this vital equipment.
The hard-working committee at the Tickton Defibrillator Campaign secured backing from the Beverley-based charity NURSE, which donated four defibrillators and their wall mounted casings worth approximately £9,000. This generous gift has helped to free up the Campaign’s own funds to maintain them and deliver free training events in resuscitation. A fifth defibrillator has been supplied separately by the British Heart Foundation.
The Tour de Tickton took Graham - who is a keen cyclist - from Springdale Farm Shop to the Village Hall and the BATA store on Hull Bridge Road.
Speaking afterwards, Graham said, “It was great to be able to meet those involved in helping to secure this lifesaving equipment for Tickton as part of my ongoing HEART campaign. Having a defibrillator available, and knowing how to use it, can make all the difference in an emergency and it’s really good to see a community coming together to make this happen.
“I’m very grateful to have had the chance to celebrate the occasion with both the fundraising committee, who’ve done a brilliant job, and the amazing leaders of NURSE. I look forward to continuing to raise the profile of defibrillators and if anybody wants details on how to obtain one for their own area, please contact my office who will be very happy to help.”
Yvonne Johnson, a member of the Tickton Defibrillator Campaign committee, said:
“The dream of providing defibrillator coverage for Tickton and Routh parish has very quickly become a reality. Thanks to NURSE we achieved our goal earlier than we expected. We also want to record our thanks to local businesses, the parish council and residents who’ve been great at donating prizes for raffles and helping to raise funds.
“Saturday was a very enjoyable day and it was very nice of Graham to join us. The novelty bike tour was appreciated by everyone who took part. Anybody who wants to learn how defibrillators work would be very welcome at our training day at the chapel in Tickton on Saturday 29 October.”
