New Flemingate store will give community the perfect One Stop for household essentials
Fri 15th January 2021A new convenience store is opening at Beverley’s Flemingate centre to provide a valuable service to people in the town during lockdown and beyond.
The One Stop store, next to the Premier Inn hotel and close to the entrance to Flemingate’s multi-storey car park, will sell groceries, toiletries and other daily essentials, as well as newspapers and magazines. It will be open seven days a week, from 7am each day.
Fitting out of the 1,980 sq ft unit will start next week, with the store due to open in early February.
Hull-based Wykeland Group, owner and developer of Flemingate, is bringing the unit into use as a convenience store at a time when Covid-19 lockdown restrictions limit shopping to essential retailers.
The opening of One Stop will mean residents will have a convenience store providing food and household essentials on their doorstep and will be a boost for the local community following an announcement that the Co-op convenience store in nearby Hull Road, Beverley, is to close in April.
The One Stop opening will also create a minimum of 10 much-needed local jobs.
One Stop Stores Limited, a subsidiary of Tesco, is a retail convenience business with over 900 company and franchise neighbourhood stores across Great Britain. Employing more than 10,500 staff, One Stop stores offer local communities a range of convenience food and household goods at affordable prices.
The new store will also sell sandwiches and snacks and offer meal deals for people living and working
in the area.
Wykeland Property Director David Donkin said: “One Stop will add to and complement the existing mix of retail, leisure and office uses at Flemingate and provide an important service to shoppers, workers and local people.
“It will be a place where local residents and visitors to Flemingate can shop safely for groceries and essential household items, during the current Covid restrictions, and will continue to provide a valued service as normality returns.
“It is also creating new jobs and bringing further investment into Beverley, building on the positive impact Flemingate has had on the local economy.”
A One Stop spokesperson said: “The new convenience store will provide the Flemingate community with quality products and great deals on everyday items.”
Flemingate is Beverley’s largest-ever regeneration scheme, featuring leading national retail and leisure brands and local independents. It is also home to the East Riding College campus, the 80-bed Premier Inn hotel and six-screen Parkway digital cinema.
During the first national lockdown last year Wykeland carried out a major programme of investment in facilities and infrastructure at Flemingate to make the centre an even safer and more welcoming place for shoppers and other visitors.
The £70,000 programme of upgrades featured an expanding the click and collect parking facility, doubling of the size of Flemingate’s popular play park, including new play equipment, painting and refurbishment across the centre and extensive Covid-secure measures and safety signage.
