A POSITIVE MOVE AGAINST SHOPLIFTING!
Thu 12th December 2019Beverley Shopwatch was started 18 months ago as an initiative between the local police and Beverley retailers to prevent retail crime in Beverley.
Co-ordinated by Shaun Dart, Shopwatch functions throughout the town centre and surrounding areas. It has quickly become a very popular and important tool for staff in retail settings, increasing awareness and encouraging retail outlets to work together to achieve the same goal.
A data sharing agreement has been set up between the police and local retailers whereby images of known shoplifters can be shared. This makes up-to-date information available to all stores in the initiative so they can be prepared and be aware. This is especially true during the Festive Season - a key time for all retailers.
Shopwatch makes Beverley a tough target for shoplifters, and brings together a community of like-minded businesses. That said, Shaun would also encourage members of the public to inform store staff if they see theft occurring in shops.
Shaun is delighted with the success of the scheme, and looks forward to its continued positive impact on the Beverley retail environment for shoppers and businesses alike.
