Beverley Pride is inviting the local community to a very special edition of its popular Pride & Popcorn event on Friday 31st July at Parkway Cinema, Beverley, the final Pride & Popcorn before the main Beverley Pride celebrations on Saturday 8th August.
This month's event features a screening of the much-loved musical Kinky Boots, but before the film, audiences will enjoy a live panel discussion exploring the theme of Identity, Confidence & Self-Expression.
Hosted by Lucy Thompson, Chair of Beverley Pride, the panel will bring together four inspiring guests, each offering their own unique perspective on confidence and authenticity:
Queen Margarita – Beverley Pride's official host and one of Yorkshire's best- known bearded drag queens, discussing confidence and creativity through drag.
Roxie Royale – Founder of Sunset Studios, exploring confidence, body positivity and self-expression through burlesque.
Shaun, owner of Hull lifestyle store 19 Point 4, sharing how fashion can help people express their identity and individuality.
Ellie, Chair of Trans Hull, reflecting on her personal journey of discovering her true identity, living authentically and the importance of acceptance and community.
The discussion will celebrate the many different ways people find the confidence to be themselves, creating an open, welcoming conversation that reflects the themes at the heart of Kinky Boots.
Lucy Thompson, Chair of Beverley Pride, said:
"Pride & Popcorn has always been about more than just watching a film. It's about creating opportunities for people to come together, make new connections and feel part of our community.
As this is our final Pride & Popcorn before Beverley Pride, we wanted to do something extra special. Our panel will explore identity, confidence and self- expression through four very different lived experiences, showing that there's no one way to be yourself.
Whether you're part of the LGBTQ+ community, an ally, or simply looking for a welcoming evening out, everyone is invited."
Pride & Popcorn has become a popular monthly event in Beverley, offering an inclusive, friendly space where people can enjoy LGBTQ+ themed films in a relaxed atmosphere. The organisers are particularly keen to reassure anyone attending alone that they will receive a warm welcome.
The event takes place on Friday 31st July at Parkway Cinema, Beverley, with the panel discussion taking place at 6pm before the screening of Kinky Boots at 7.30pm.
The event also marks the beginning of the countdown to Beverley Pride, which returns to Flemingate on Saturday 8th August with a full day of live entertainment, community stalls, family activities and celebrations of diversity, inclusion and community.
