Health and Wellbeing Board focuses on health optimisation
Tue 4th February 2020Steps are being taken to help improve the lives of East Riding residents by focusing on the way public health and leisure services work together in order to provide healthier lifestyles at the upcoming Health and Wellbeing Board meeting, which takes place at County Hall, Beverley, on Thursday, 6 February at 2pm.
The core business of East Riding Leisure has evolved to show that health and wellbeing activity is at the very centre of service delivery and that all development, including information technology, partnership and collaboration work, staff development and customer journey management have a major impact on sustaining and improving the health offer to residents.
One of the Board’s key drivers was to better support the growing health agenda by providing greater strategic capacity to further enhance our impact on improving health and wellbeing by supporting our residents to be more physically, mentally and socially active.
One of the ways this has been accomplished is with the external funding from Sport England to enable the Active Withernsea pilot to be formed, which supports people in the town to improve and maintain their health and wellbeing and was delivered through partnership working between public health and leisure services.
The local media’s support during this time has been pivotal to the success of the pilot.
Having the technology and systems is also fundamental to the delivery of successful programmes.
The Board will discuss the significant digital developments underway in the East Riding, including the Summary Care Record, the Supplier Led Interoperability Programme, Lorenzo, the Electronic Palliative Care Co-ordination System, the Humber Care Tech Challenge, the Humber Health App and the NHS App to name a few.
Technology such as the iCareHealth app, which was launched at the Old School House in Beverley, enabled staff to input data on ipads and smartphones for a more efficient service. The app is also available to service users’ loved ones so they can see what their husband, mother, brother etc. has been doing on any one day.
Also on the agenda is the NHS Long Term Plan which set out a vision of an NHS focused on prevention and early intervention, working closely with local government and using population health insight to understand need and plan services and initiatives together.
Councillor Jonathan Owen, chair of the Health and Wellbeing Board, said: “The work to improve the lives of those who need support and guidance on healthy living is a key priority to ensure the health and wellbeing of East Riding residents and connecting individuals with appropriate services and community assets is of great importance to us.
“The Board is an important tool in driving forward change in relation to the health and social care needs of East Riding residents and is the perfect platform from which to continue the good work that is already being done locally to address these key priorities.”
