Bra collection drive at Millers Day Service to support local breast cancer charity

Bra Collection Drive At Millers Day Service To Support Local Breast Cancer Charity

Millers Day Services in Beverley has once again shown its community spirit by collecting over 1000 bras throughout June in support of Hull and East Riding (HER) Breast Friends charity.

HER Breast Friends is a proactive, volunteer-led charity based in Hull, dedicated to supporting individuals affected by breast cancer across Hull, the East Riding of Yorkshire, and North East Lincolnshire.

The charity offers a wide range of services including wig and bra banks, complimentary therapies, pink pamper days, monthly coffee mornings, breast awareness campaigns and support for those living with secondary or metastatic breast cancer.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Millers Day Services contributed to a council wide collection, which donated 1027 bras to HER Breast Friends.

Millers Day Services specialise in learning disabilities and complex care support. The service provides a variety of facilities and scheduled activities, supporting service users within a safe and empowering environment.

The collection at Millers Day Services was organised by support worker, Theresa Bray. Both staff and service users contributed donations to support the charity which promotes a positive approach to living with breast cancer.

The bras collected from the donation drive will be used locally to support HER Breast Friends’ bra bank service. The bras will also be distributed nationally and internationally, including to developing nations where access to such essentials is limited.

Millers previously ran a successful bra collection in 2018, and this year’s campaign was organised starting in February, culminating in a month-long collection drive throughout June.

Jayne Beck, charity manager at HER Breast Friends said: ‘’This is the second time Theresa and Millers Day Services have organised a ‘bra drive’.  It is always great to come along, see the excitement in the centre, listen to their ideas and see their unique bra displays.

‘’This year they have smashed last time’s total, and their ‘June is Busting Out All Over’ collection will help so many people. It really is a wonderful campaign!”

Councillor Johnathan Owen, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s cabinet member for adults, health and care, said: “It’s inspiring to see staff and service users from Millers Day Services, as well as those from the wider council, come together for such a meaningful cause.

‘’The support from everyone involved has been incredible and it’s wonderful to support a local charity which provides such a vital service.’’
