Beverley Town Draw in 'Cracking Game' with Chalk Lane
Mon 7th January 2019Beverley went 1-0 up with a well-worked goal from Karl Fitzgerald. Chalk had a good penalty appeal turned away, both teams created some good chances but neither side could convert. The first half was played at a frantic pace, with both teams determined to get a foothold on the game.
Half time Town 1-0 Chalk
Second half Chalk came at Town and deserved to equalise after a good free kick from Nathan Peat. Town were now stretched and Chalk looked like adding another. However, they had a man sent off for a reckless challenge, which changed the nature of the game.
Craig Palmer came on with 10 minutes to go for Town and on 82 minutes restored the lead with a header, after good work out wide by Olly Baldwin. On 85 minutes Chalk equalised from close range, then on 88 minutes delivered the sucker-punch when Andrew Scott scored to put Chalk 3-2 up. Town could have crumbled, but stuck to the task, and with 20 seconds to go, Craig Palmer got his second to make it 3-3 and earn Town a well deserved point.
Manager Rich Jagger reflected after the game:- “Considering we had 5 missing through flu, I thought the lads were magnificent today. Obviously we needed to win and are disappointed not to get the victory, but that said I was really proud of the performance today. We were really blowing in the last ten minutes, and could have folded after conceding 2 goals. Credit to Craig Palmer though for grabbing two late goals, his experience really showed and he took his goals really well.
"I’ve got to say this was a cracking game for the spectators, and a real credit to the Humber Premier League. Chalk are a very good side, but our lads gave everything and a draw was probably a fair result in the end.”
Final score - Beverley Town 3, Chalk Lane 3.
