East Riding College announces national deal with RMT Union
Wed 25th July 2018East Riding College and the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) signed a landmark deal at the RMT’s annual Education Festival recently. Representatives from the College were guests at the Festival which was held at the RMT’s Bob Crow National Education Centre in Doncaster.
The agreement is to provide training to members of the Union nationally. It was formally signed and sealed with a hand shake between College principal and chief executive Mike Welsh and Mick Cash, general secretary of the Union as part of the education festival celebrations.
The College and the RMT will work together to develop the training programmes provided by the Union. This will include tutors from the Union undergoing further professional development, delivered by the College, which has wide-ranging teacher training provision and is renowned for its high quality provision.
College chief executive Mike Welsh said, “The overall aim of the programme is to improve the learning experience at the RMT’s national education centre. I was honoured to be invited to the Union’s annual festival of education to officially mark the start of this new partnership and I am sure it is the beginning of a productive relationship between the two organisations.”
General Secretary of the RMT Mick Cash said, “I am really pleased to sign this accreditation agreement with East Riding College on behalf of the union’s members. Going forward it will be really pleasing to see our Union’s reps and officials attend our education centre achieving and receiving real academic reward for their efforts on the courses we deliver. Equally, we welcome the professional educational expertise the College can bring to our trade union education work.”
