Wildlfe Photographer of the Year exhibition in Beverley to open additionally on three Sundays in March
Mon 27th February 2017East Riding of Yorkshire Council has announced today (Monday 27 February) that its first major event as part of Hull UK City of Culture 2017- the Wildlife Photographer of the Year at the Treasure House in Beverley – is proving so popular that is to be opened additionally on three Sundays in March.
The free exhibition is currently open Mondays to Saturdays in the Treasure House until 22 April, and features 100 awe-inspiring images, from fascinating animal behaviour to breathtaking wild landscapes.
It is the most prestigious photography event of its kind, which has provided a global platform showcasing the natural world’s most astonishing and challenging sights for over 50 years.
Since it opened on Saturday 11 February, the exhibition has proved hugely popular, with an estimated 13,000 visitors to the Treasure House up to last Thursday (23 February).
In order to allow as many visitors as possible the opportunity to see the exhibition, it has now been decided that the exhibition and the café in the Treasure House will be open from 10am to 4pm on Sundays 5, 12 and 19 March. The library and the archives will not be open on those dates.
Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for civic wellbeing and culture, explained: “We have been absolutely delighted with the popularity of this exhibition so far, and it is particularly pleasing that is clearly attracting people into the Treasure House who would not necessarily visit, from far and wide.
“I am very pleased that we are able to extend the chance to visit this stunning exhibition for three Sundays in March, and I hope that many more people will take the opportunity to come and see it.
“I hope also that these openings will encourage more people to come into Beverley and see the delights that the town has to offer, seven days a week, with benefits to the wider economy.”
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is a Principal Partner in Hull UK City of Culture 2017, and the exhibition is part of a year-long programme of events all across the East Riding.
