Two Ridings we are committed to helping small, local charities make a difference
Thu 19th December 2019Two Ridings Community Foundation is a charity for North & East Yorkshire that improves lives and communities by providing grants to small, vital charities and community organisations throughout the area.
At the heart of our success is the quality and reach of our grant-making. With our dedicated, professional staff and volunteer assessors we ensure our grants go to groups with the ability to make the most impact, whether it’s combating loneliness, improving mental health, reducing isolation and food poverty or homelessness.
At Two Ridings we are committed to helping small, local charities make a difference. Over the last 19 years we have given over 3,000 grants totalling £10 million – the average size of the grant is £4,000.
One of our funds is the Deflog Fund, set up by the trustees of Deflog VQ, the Beverley based logistics training provider, this £250,000 fund was set up with the aim of advancing education and training, relieve unemployment and also to relieve the needs of people who are, or at risk of becoming, socially excluded – the grants awarded through this fund helped various charities across the East Riding.
One of these awards was to Catzero to undertake intensive work with disadvantaged young people from across the region including Beverley. The funding enabled them to work with 28 young people, and included employability sessions looking at pathways to employment, CV writing, interview techniques and job searching. The work also encompassed activity sessions designed to challenge the participants including rocking climbing, sea survival and sailing. They were also provided with personal support to address the issues and behaviours that may have been preventing them moving forward. The programme worked with all making progress; 11 getting jobs, 6 taking up training and 1 going into further education, a further 3 are volunteering and 7 continue to work with Catzero. We are enormously grateful for the support of our donors who ensure we continue to meet the needs of these communities.
