Heritage Open Days To Host 150 Free Events In Beverley East Yorkshire

The Heritage Open Days are returning to Beverley & the East Riding, for the 30th year, on Friday 6th and Sunday 15th September 2024.

This year’s festival is the biggest to date with over 150 free events across Beverley, Hedon, Hornsea, Goole, Howden, and Bridlington. The programme includes walks, talks, and a range of open venues, showcasing the region’s heritage.

The days are co-ordinated by Beverley Civic Society, and supported by Beverley Town Council and Visit East Yorkshire, part of East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The festival forms part of the national Heritage Open Days programme, linked to the European Heritage Open Days programme.

Events include history walks through the towns, as well as guided tours to historic buildings and monuments. These range from Beverley Minster to Bishop Burton College Walled Garden, to Hornsea Coast watch station and Flamborough Chalk Tower.

There are also shows and activities such as a performance by the Hull Community Theatre Group in Hedon and the teddy bear parachute making session at St Mary’s Church in Beverley.

New to the programme this year are ‘Gallery at Salt’ in Beverley who will display three sustainable designs they have completed in Yorkshire, plus the artworks of Claire West, Bridget Hansford and Alexandra Thorne.

Councillor Nick Coultish, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure & Tourism said “This year’s programme is an incredible collection of East Yorkshire’s culture and heritage and we would like to thank Beverley Civic Society for their hard work and dedication in bringing this programme to the public’s attention.”

“There is something for everyone to enjoy, so whether its visiting some of the oldest pubs in the Beverley, learning about the history of Goole Docks, understanding Amy Johnson’s connection with our area or taking a stroll around Hedon’s interesting buildings, we would welcome you to get involved.”

Brochures are available in several locations in Beverley and at all East Riding libraries, museums and Tourist Information Centres.
