Salons step in with warming gift for Hull Animal Welfare Trust

Unique Salons have donated more than 300 towels to Hull Animal Welfare Trust to help keep the shelter’s residents warm this winter. Danny Smith and Claire Pickering of Unique Salon took a quick break from creating fantastic hair for their clients to visit the Sunnydene Animal Shelter to hand over the towels and meet some of the animals there.

Unique’s Marketing Manager Danny said: “Unique’s three salons in Cottingham, Hessle and Beverley recently took delivery of new towels in preparation for the Christmas season, and when it came to finding a good use for the old towels the answer was obvious.

“We’ve got a lot of animal lovers on the team, I think nearly everyone has at least one pet and many of them are rescues, so we know first hand how important the work of places like Hull Animal Welfare Trust is. It’s fantastic to know that places like this exist to help animals in need and we are proud to be able to help.”

Sue Sewell of Hull Animal Welfare Trust said: “This is a lovely boost for the shelter and the timing is ideal, with temperatures dropping in recent weeks the animals are always in need of some extra warmth.

“We rely heavily on support from the public and it’s great to receive donations like this. Towels are really useful for everything from bedding to bath times for the animals. We help over 1,000 animals each year and all donations are welcome.”

Supporting good causes locally is important to Unique Salons whose activities have included Haircuts for the Homeless, Haircuts for the Elderly and their annual Big Wig Weekend in support of HER Breast Friends.

Claire Pickering, Salon Manager said: “It’s sad to think how many animals end up in shelters and we’re really pleased to be able to put our old towels to good use. Of course, the challenge of dropping the towels off was to make sure I didn’t come home with another pet!”

About Hull Animal Welfare Trust

The Hull Animal Welfare Trust was formed in 1982 by a band of caring people who wanted to do something practical and demonstrable about animal cruelty and abandonment in the Hull and East Riding area.

The organisation has come a long way since 1982 and conditions for animals and volunteers have improved immeasurably with state of the art facilities for 50 dogs and 40 cats which are always full and an average of 1,000 animals per year are rescued and re-homed. One thing that has not changed however are the original values of care and commitment to the cause of animal welfare and the trust is proud to hold true to the original policies and objectives, in that:

– No healthy animal is ever destroyed. 

– No animal in distress is ever turned away or any call unanswered.

– With the shelter open 365 days per year, 11am to 2pm no appointment necessary.

– Care is taken to match the right animal with the right home.

– Neutering programmes are at the heart of the operation so the unwanted animal problem is tackled at source. 

– Maximum monies raised and donated go directly to the care and attention of the animals with the minimum in administration and overheads.
