Queen's 90th Birthday Marked with Beacon and Civic Dinner
Thu 21st April 2016A beacon will be lit tonight to honour the 90th birthday of Her Majesty The Queen.
An event will take place tonight from 6:45pm to 8:00pm at Flemingate, where the beacon will be lit on Level 4 of the development's car park around 7:15pm.
Due to ongoing works at Beverley Minster, the beacon cannot be located on the tower as originally planned, but Beverley Town Concil are pleased that Flemingate have stepped in.
Flemingate Centre Manager, Graham Tait, said, "We feel honoured to be part of the celebrations to commemorate The Queen's ninetieth birthday. When Helen Watson, from Beverley Town Council, approached us to see if the beacon couls be lit on the top of our multi-storey car park, we were delighted to be able to help with this long tradition of celebrating Royal occasions."
As well as the lighting of the beacon, Councillor Peter Astell will welcome around 70 guests to a Civic Dinner held at East Riding College. Students have created the menu for a three-course meal and have designed floral arrangements.
Councillor Astell said, "I am delights to be holding my Civic Dinner at East Riding College in celebration of the Queen's 90th birthday."
