Family Business in Rural East Yorkshire Announced As Finalist in National Awards

Side Oven Bakery, based in Foston on the Wolds, East Yorkshire has just been announced as a Finalist in the prestigious National Awards ‘Rural Business Awards North’ – these awards showcase the very best in British rural enterprise so to make the shortlist for the North is a great achievement for the Side Oven team.

It is fantastic recognition for our team, particularly as we are up against some of the best Food Producers in the North of England.”
The Side Oven is an Organic food & drinks producer situated on a family farm at the foot of the Wolds in East Yorkshire. They make a range of artisan Breakfast Cereals, Apple Juice and Fruit Cordials all made using ingredients grown or sourced on the Organic farm.
The award winning range of products are all truly handmade from start to finish to ensure only the highest quality. They use traditional methods such as a Stoneground Mill on site to mill the Spelt flour used in the Granola, and the Wood Burning oven fired with timber from the farm to gently toast the cereals. These methods slow down the production process, but in doing so gives a fantastic depth of flavour.
Run by the fifth and sixth generations of the Sellers family, Side Oven also uses the bread-making skills of its founder and daughters to run regular bread making courses that use the farm’s home milled flour to educate people about the lost art of traditional bread making.
About the Rural Business Awards
The RBAs were founded by Leicestershire businesswomen Jemma Clifford and Anna Price and now attract hundreds of entries from businesses based all over rural Britain. The aim of the awards is to highlight the success of businesses across the UK’s rural economy – a segment which employs in excess of 3.4million people in more than 750,000 businesses in England alone.
The awards are organised by rural business for rural business, with winners in the 13 categories - ranging from Best Rural Start-up and Outstanding Rural Diversification Project; through to Best Rural Professional Services Business and Rural Education or Training Business - decided by an independent panel of judges drawn from the rural business sector, rural public sector agencies, and rural charitable organisations.
Regional finals are being held in the autumn of 2018, with the winners going on to a grand final on February 28, 2019.
