Graham Stuart MP attends reception celebrating local shops in Beverley and Holderness

Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, this week attended the Association of Convenience Stores’ ‘Heart of the Community’ parliamentary reception in order to celebrate the contribution that local shops make in his constituency.
The reception came off the back of the Local Shop Report 2019 which was released by the ACS last month. The report provided key insights into the sector, including sales, tax and investment figures.
At the reception, Graham had the opportunity to meet with Mike Igoe, who runs retail consultancy business Retail Input, which helps local shops in Beverley and Holderness to grow and improve their businesses.
Speaking after the reception, Graham said: “I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity to celebrate local shops in my constituency.
“They hold a valuable place in their communities and employ hundreds of people across Beverley and Holderness.
“We’re supporting our local shops and small businesses by cutting corporation tax and business rates – lifting 600,000 small firms out of the rates system altogether. I’m passionate about helping our local shops thrive and I’ll continue to back them however I can.”
Mr Igoe commented: “It was a pleasure to meet Graham at the reception and chat about how trends have changed over the years and how my business has helped local shops respond to these changes.
“I’ve been involved with the Association of Convenience Stores for 28 years now and they do a great job of promoting support for local shops, so I was very pleased Graham took the time to come down and demonstrate his support.”
Local shops in Yorkshire and the Humber brought in £54 million to the economy over the last year, and shops across the country employ over 400,000 people.
