Mayor’s Civic Dinner Raises Over £2,000 for Cherry Tree
Tue 22nd October 2024The Mayor of Beverley’s Civic Dinner took place in October, raising over £2,000 for the Cherry Tree Youth Hub.
Taking place at the Beverley Masonic Hall, the evening was attended by civic dignitaries, honorary Beverley freemen and woman, representatives from Cherry Tree and the Mayor’s family members and other guests.
The evening included a talk about freemasonry and the charitable causes lodges support. This was led by Worshipful Brother William Glanville, Deputy Provincial Grand Master of the Masonic Province of Yorkshire North and East Ridings, who also served as auctioneer for the night.
Mr Glanville said: “We are happy to support the Cherry Tree Youth Hub and many other charities and good causes in the area. We are honoured that the Mayor selected the Beverley Masonic Hall for his Civic Dinner and the staff were more than happy that the evening was such a success.”
Representatives from Cherry Tree, including manager Joanne Ramsay, Councillor Tony Henderson, Fiona Rainforth and two young people involved with the youth project, spoke passionately of their plans to raise funds to secure facilities for young people, especially a new youth project hub on Burden Road play area, known locally as Mudhills.
Councillor David Boynton, the Mayor of Beverley said: “It was a really lovely evening, where all those present wanted to do their bit to help Cherry Tree. It was wonderful to raise over £2,000 for this important project, thanks to the generosity of those in attendance. I am also incredibly grateful to all the local businesses which donated some amazing prizes for our auction and raffle. I would also like to thank everyone at the Masonic Hall and Town Council officers for helping to make the evening such a success.”
Those in attendance included Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire Mr Nigel Pearson, the High Sheriff of the East Riding of Yorkshire Colonel Christopher Henson QGM, the Chair of East Riding of Yorkshire Council Councillor Linda Bayram, the Lord Mayor of Hull Councillor Mark Collinson, and other Town Mayors from the across the county.
Musical interludes were provided by Daniel Mackenzie-Hastings of the Beverley and District Pipe Band – which is another much-loved organisation the Mayor was keen to support.
The Mayor added: “There are so many wonderful community groups in Beverley, like the Pipe Band, the Masonic Lodges and Cherry Tree. We are a town that has a huge community spirit, so I’d encourage anyone who can support the Youth Hub to contact the Cherry Tree Centre to see how they can be of help. Young people in Beverley need a place where they can gather, knowing they will be safe and receive support. Together, we can help this become a reality.”
