New Golf Club Captains looking forward to the year ahead
Thu 2nd March 2023Beverley and East Riding Golf Club elected new captains for 2023 at its February AGM. Ben Gardiner has taken over from Pat Howdle as Men’s Captain, and Sue Collins has replaced Barbara Hawley as Lady Captain.
Ben is relatively new to club golf. He has played occasionally throughout his life, but hadn’t been a member anywhere until he joined Beverley in 2019.
Ben said “It’s a great honour to be Captain of this club and to see my name added to a list of illustrious names which goes back all the way to 1889.
“Pat will be a hard act to follow, and I’d like to thank him for all the effort he put into the club during his year. As a result, I’m
privileged to take over at a time when the membership is buoyant, the facilities are excellent and the course has never been
better.
“I’m looking forward to representing the club at our neighbouring courses and hosting several events during the year. And
I’ll be raising much-needed funds for my chosen charity, PAUL For Brain.”
Sue has a longer history at the club, having joined in 2017.
Sue said “I’m privileged to be taking over from Barbara, who did a great job as captain in 2022. The Ladies’ section is
smaller than the men’s, but that means we’re a close knit group, and I look forward to plenty of good golf with them this year.
“I think the club provides excellent value for its members and we have managed to keep subscription fee increases below
inflation.
“We hope to welcome more new members to the club and, at present, do not charge a joining fee.”
