Molescroft Beverley Petanque Club achieved success in the Yorkshire Petanque Team, finishing 3rd in the National Petanque Inter Regional Tournament 2025.
Every year Petanque England organises the National Inter Regional tournament, usually in September. This year the event was held at Sandy Bay Holiday Village, Weston Super Mare with 800 competitors and two hundred officials taking part in the tournament over two full days of competition.
Earlier in 2025 Yorkshire Petanque held its qualifying tournament at Heckmondwike. Twelve clubs qualified to represent Yorkshire in the National Tournament and two teams, with six players from Molescroft Beverley Petanque Club: Thierry Condette (coach), Nikki Driscoll, Wick van Rijn, Suham Sidani, Alan Hayton and
Ian Pomfret. Most of the qualifying clubs Leeds, Wetherby, Huddersfield have been established for around twenty five years and more. Molescroft Beverley Club however was formed five years ago and three of the players in the team Nikki, Alan and Ian have only been playing for just over a year.
In the National Tournament the club won 14 games, beating teams representing Kent, Wales, Scotland, Anglia and Heart of England helping to secure an overall position of 3rd place for Yorkshire out of twelve regions taking part.
Chair of the Molescroft Parish Councilor Adrian Costello commented, "We recognise how much work and dedication has gone into the Petanque Club, they help raise the profile of Molescroft locally and now nationally with their participation in the National Inter Regional Competition. For this we are delighted to present them with the Millennium Cup, Molescroft Jubilee Award"
Suham added, "It is amazing what we have achieved in such a short time, putting Molescroft on the map nationwide".
