Beverley Market crowns its best dressed stall for Christmas
Fri 20th December 2019Traders on Beverley Market decked their stalls with festive flair for a Christmas themed market in the town last Saturday (14 December).
The stallholders competed in the annual best-dressed stall competition for the Allan Gorbutt Cup and this year Victoria Winterbottom of K & J’s Market Deli was named the winner for her attractive seasonal display.
The trophy is named in memory of well-known trader Allan Gorbutt, who ran a stall at Beverley market for 48 years.
Allan’s daughter Vicky Gorbutt helped to judge the competition alongside the Mayor of Beverley, Cllr Duncan Jack.
Richard Lascelles, markets and allotments officer for East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “We had a great day with the traders really entering into the Christmas spirit, but Victoria was a worthy winner.”
Beverley’s Saturday market will run throughout the holidays, with markets held as normal on 21 and 28 December.
There will be a special Christmas Eve market in Beverley on Tuesday 24 December from 9am to 2pm, with a selection of stalls offering last minute gifts and produce.
Beverley’s Wednesday market is taking a break until Wednesday 8 January.
