Create your Own Style at Verb
Tue 25th July 2017Need help with your wardrobe? Want to portray a certain style, co-ordinating your ‘look’? Do you struggle to create outfits with detail and depth which give a look of considered sophistication? Would you like your style to be smart enough for work but relaxed enough for down the pub? With 35 years retail experience from a predominantly menswear back ground, Lee Wardell has seen key looks come and go under the heading 'fashion'. But he believes most men are better suited to enjoy a style which enhances their body type and personality. Just Beverley welcomes this new column which will appeal to both male and female readers. This month - JEANS!
The emergence of denim from a workwear item of clothing for cowboys many years ago to a staple in a man’s wardrobe has been gradual. Today, denim is accepted in all walks of life - you can even buy jeans with solid silver buttons created by some fashion houses retailing at over £300!!! But style doesn’t necessarily mean costing the earth. Style can be created at a very reasonable outlay and jeans have become a key member of any wardrobe because of their comfort and versatility. With 5 pockets, hardwearing cotton denim which today often contains 1% elastin to give a real comfort fit when sitting down, and variety of colours, you can never have too many. Black, washed-out black, dark navy with a tan stitch to match tan brogues, slightly worn and a converse-trainer wearing battered pair seem to be the order in many a man’s wardrobe.
A dark navy jean in the correct waist size with the correct leg length breaking nicely on your high shine brogue shoe with a matching belt - IT’S A MUST! Have fun with your socks - orange maybe or sky blue to match the shirt! A sky-blue shirt is a must for any man’s wardrobe - watch future editions for more detail on shirt fit and features. To add real sophistication, a well-tailored jacket with correct shoulder fit, correct sleeve and body length can be worn, and with such a neutral back drop all colours and even checks can be considered. This look can be worn to a function/pub/ restaurant, although smart, darker wash jeans are much classier and acceptable. A detailed waist-coat with a small lapel adds to the sophistication and negates the need to wear a tie, especially if the wearer is not used to the formality of one. In future features, I will detail neck wear and its many variations. As a starter, good fitting jeans are a great flexible piece to have in your wardrobe.
