Lairgate Property looks to the future
Thu 5th December 2024Refurbishing historic listed buildings is crucial for preserving cultural heritage, providing a tangible link to the past that can educate and inspire future generations.
By revitalising these structures, we honour architectural achievements and craftsmanship while adapting them for modern use.
Currently on Lairgate R D Stott Architects have taken on the challenge to refurbish and breathe new life into the old 1843 Beverley Savings Bank, converting it into two luxury residential developments, which will make beautiful new homes for the future occupants in 2025.
Richard commented, "When approaching listed buildings, we aim to be adaptive, converting old buildings into functional spaces like hotels, offices, or as in this case residences, adding vibrancy while respecting and conserving the past. The environmental benefits are significant, as refurbishing often has a lower carbon footprint compared to new construction".
Richard continued, "Importantly, with this project we have been able to preserve or restore many traditional features, using traditional trades, nurturing expertise that might otherwise be lost. Overall, refurbishing this historic building has allowed us to respect the past while meeting contemporary needs, creating a sustainable approach to urban development and cultural continuity. I hope whoever chooses to live here will be delighted with its transformation, reflecting on the past while looking to the future".
