Graham Stuart MP presents Beverley Minster C o E Primary School 'Send My Friend to School' Campaign Booklet to Prime Minister
Mon 4th February 2019Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness visited Beverley Minster Church of England Primary School for the Send My Friend to School event. As part of the visit, the Year 6 pupils offered Graham a book of drawings expressing their wish that no child anywhere in the world face violence at school.
Send My Friend to School is part of an international campaign group that works towards the goal of ensuring that every child regardless of where they are born gets the opportunity to go to school. The organisation encourages children across the UK to speak up for the right of education and to remind world leaders of their UN Sustainable Development Goal promise to provide education for all, up to the age of 15, by 2030.
At the event, Graham spoke with the pupils about his work as an MP, and how in his role he can help drive educational standards upwards not only in the UK but internationally. The Year 6 pupils enthusiastically discussed what they had learned about justice and freedom, and they offered Graham their campaign booklet, which he has now presented to the Prime Minister.
Graham said: “Education should be available to all children, as opposed to a luxury determined by the circumstances and luck of birth. Violence in schools abroad is an abominable reality that should concern political leaders globally.”
“The pupils of Beverley Minster C of E Primary School asked me to present their campaign booklet to the Prime Minister, Theresa May, to highlight worldwide educational inequality and the danger many children face at school.”
“I am inspired by the pupils’ drawings and their determination to enact change; they have done great credit to themselves. I am sure the Prime Minister will take heed of their efforts and I know the UK will continue to encourage other countries to sign the Safe Schools Declaration.”
