Beverley Puppet Festival: w/c 6th July
Sun 28th June 2020It's the final week of the Beverley Puppet Festival! Get ready for a jam packed week of exciting online entertainment to give the first Puppet Festival of this online nature off a good send-off!
Monday 6th July... EXCITING RECYCLING with Kabutar Arts (of London)
Through storytelling with William Steig’s ‘Sylvester and the Magic Pebble’, Manju Gregory will show you how to make your own characters by recycling plastic from your home. Set your puppets against the background scenery of a ‘story apron’ and travel through the seasons.
Wednesday 8th July... MOVING MOUTH TOAD PUPPET with Norwich Puppet Theatre (of Norwich)
Inspired by the Toad from Norwich Puppet Theatre’s ‘Thumbelina’, learn how to make your own moving mouth paper puppet. All you’ll need is some A4 paper (preferably green - but you can always add colour to white), some scissors, sellotape and a pen. A simple design which can be used to make all sorts of characters for your own puppet play at home.
Saturday 11th July... WATER POWERED TORTOISE with The Flying Buttresses (of London)
The Flying Buttresses will teach you how to safely make working miniature, water powered ‘hydraulic pistons’ from easily found materials without needing to “shell out”. They will then demonstrate how these can be used to move a tortoise puppet that can turn from side to side, slide its head in and out of its shell and open its mouth.
Sunday 12th July... DANCE OF THE NESTLINGS with Judith Hope Puppet Maker (of London)
Join this online tutorial to create a lively puppet from basic materials found around the home. Either follow the example to make a dancing penguin nestling or adapt the structure to create your own flightless fledgling. Raid your kitchen drawers and recycling box and turn the mundane into a little puppetmaking magic.
