Christmas events at Beverley's Saturday Market
Fri 30th November 2018A host of Christmas events will be held at Beverley’s Saturday Market to entertain shoppers in the run up to the festive holidays.
Festive entertainment, a family day and a special Christmas Eve market are some of the events planned, organised jointly by the market traders and East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
On Saturday 8 December there will be a Christmas-themed market, with singers and dancers providing the entertainment.
This festive event is being seen as the perfect warm-up to the Beverley Festival of Christmas, which takes place the day after, on Sunday 9 December.
Performers on the Saturday will include the Beverley Garland Dancers from 11.30am, soprano Lubelle Rose singing from noon, and male vocal group Answers On A Postcard from 2pm.
Traders will also be decking their stalls with Christmas decorations for the annual best-dressed stall competition.
The annual Allan Gorbutt Cup, named in memory of well-known trader Allan Gorbutt, who ran a stall at Beverley market for 48 years, will be presented to the best-dressed stall.
And there will be a fund-raising stall at the market in aid of Leconfield Pre-School.
On Saturday 15 December the market will be holding a Christmas family day.
Children can win some great prizes by taking part in a free colouring competition.
Children can bring their festive colourings or drawings along to the market before noon on the day and they will be put on display on the stalls.
As well as the regular stalls, there will be visits from the Health Bus, the waste and recycling team and other services from the council.
Saturday 22 December will be a regular market, but there will be plenty of festive presents and produce on sale.
Then on Monday 24 December there will be a Christmas Eve market in Saturday Market, giving shoppers a last-minute chance to buy gifts and food for the holidays.
Richard Lascelles, markets officer for East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “We are working together with the market traders to put on special attractions in the run up to Christmas, and we hope people will come along and support the market.
“We are looking forward to the entertainment and we are grateful to the dancers and singers for coming along.”
Beverley market will return on Saturday 29 December.
