St John's Primary School: Tesco Bags of Help grant
Thu 24th May 2018St John's Primary School won £8,000 in the Tesco Bags of Help customer vote in November 2016. The school used the grant to improve their school garden. The project has now been completed and Tesco visited the school on 21st May to see just how much difference the grant has made.
School Business Manager Linda Hall said: ''We at St John of Beverley RC Primary School are delighted with our completed kitchen garden area. The children are very excited to be able to access this area once again and each class has been able to take advantage of the new raised beds to plant vegetables this spring. We have an enthusiastic group who water daily and look after the crops and flowers. We are looking forward to using the produce in the school kitchen and also our Harvest Festival in the autumn term when we will display and then distribute to those in need in the local community.
The project took longer than anticipated to complete and has involved much hard work but has been worth it to achieve the end result of an accessible kitchen garden for all our school community to enjoy. Many thanks once again to the team at Tesco and Groundwork UK for the grant and assistance provided.''
Dave Ryley added: ''The transformation from when I visited the school to make the cheque presentation is amazing. Everyone who has helped bring the project to life has done an incredible job and it's great to hear just how much the children are using the area.''
