Mon 9th March 2015East Riding College is seeking to recruit new governors after two members with a combined 34 years’ experience decided to step down. The College has 18 governors who make decisions which determine its strategic direction.
Now, it is looking for new members following the departure of vice-chairman of governors Alex Denholm after 22 years’ service and Councillor Richard Harrap after 12.
Alex said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a governor at East Riding College. It has been a joy to see the College improve year on year and see the change it makes to individual lives. Being a governor is a rewarding role, giving you the opportunity to put something back into your local community and work with a great bunch of people.”
College Principal Derek Branton said: “We are very grateful to Alex and Richard for their hard work and dedication over so many years with the governing body. Governors make an invaluable contribution to the lives of the young people and adults who attend East Riding College by bringing their skills and insight to bear on a wide range of important decisions.”
Chairman of Governors Richard Lacey said: “The ultimate goal of everyone at East Riding College is to help our students – mainly young people but also many adults – to achieve whatever they are undertaking at the College that will enable them to get on in the wider world.
“As governors, our role is to agree the educational character and mission of the college and its overall strategic direction: to set objectives and monitor results. The Corporation has 18 members who bring with them a wide range of skills, knowledge and experience to the benefit of the College. We are keen to maintain this broad range of expertise and in particular look for people with a passion for education that are able to take a strategic view and participate in boardroom discussion, providing constructive challenge and critical insight.”
The East Riding College Corporation is seeking to recruit new members for September 2015. They should be motivated people with time to commit and experience or an appreciation of working strategically in either finance, auditing or with the local authority, as an officer or councillor.
In particular, applications are welcome from currently under-represented groups on the governing body, including women, young people, people with disabilities and people from ethnic minorities.
