There is certainly a spring in the step of several Beverley runners as they put on their running shoes producing some outstanding performances during the month as well as putting in the training for some popular upcoming local races! Huge congratulations to one member who has certainly put in the miles especially on the trails! Peter Watkinson received his ‘1000 miles’ awards from Hardmoors organisers, Jon and Shirley Steele, and he received a plaque, hoodie and permanent running number after completing the Hardmoors 55. The running accolades continue! April saw the start of the local Champagne League, with the first race kicking off the series being a 4-mile route at North Cave. In the LDWA Woldsman Challenge, Nick Morrell completed the 32-mile route in 07:01:00, followed by Megan Chown and Lynne Beer in 8:13:00 and John Parish in 09:13:00, while in the 50-mile route, Billy Pike finished in 13:35:00 and Peter Garrett in 13:36:00. In the Hardmoors 55, (55 miles and 7580 feet of elevation), Nathan Cobb finished in 12:17:05. In the Commondale Clart Fell Race (5.15 Miles, 722 ft of ascent), Richard Parkin finished in 00:58:08 whilst East Hull Harriers Good Friday Hill 7-mile
Race, all 3 Beverley AC runners finished in the Top 15 with Robert Sparkes finishing 1st in a time of 00:45:02, followed by Simon Bishop (00:52:13 and 4 th place) and Jody Horth (01:04:16 and 13 th place).
Meanwhile, out on the roads, a range of distances were covered in races both locally and internationally. With several 10kms races to choose from Beverley was very well represented The Mersey Tunnel 10K saw Michael McGrath finish in 00:42:56, while in the Run For All Lincoln 10k Wayne Murtagh completed in 00:46:18. In the Hooded Horse 10k Trail. Andrew Johnson completed the challenging course in 01:04:11.
Joanne Parnell completed the Paul for Brain 10k in 01:12:12 and the Helmsley Easter Sunday multi-terrain 10k saw Daniel Bridel completed in an impressive 00:44:55 and Andrew Johnson finished the Guiseley Gallop multi-terrain 10km in 00:51:36.
In the Vale of York 10 mile, Joanne Rowland finished in 01:38:32 while in the Liverpool 10-mile, Jenny Hamlyn and Jasmine Gray completed in 01:50:27.
Some great half marathon running too! In Sheffield, Niall Stafford ran the 13.1-mile course in 01:30:20, knocking a full 17 minutes of his last year’s results, followed by Matthew Dell (01:55:20) and Carl Hailstone (02:23:48). In Retford, Ross Twosmith’s half marathon time was 01:39:02. In the London Landmarks Half Marathon, Lee Wiles finished in 01:53:21, followed by Jenny Hamlyn and Jasmine Gray both completing in
02:21:38. Further afield, half marathons were run in Prague by Usha Chapman (02:23:01) and in Long Beach Los Angeles by Lucas Meagor (02:01:26).
A couple of 20 milers to celebrate too! In the Wymondham 20, David Whiting completed in 2:02:56 and 1st male V50, followed by Rebecca Whiting in 3:01:43, while in the Sherwood Pines 20, Stuart Little completed in 02:19:53, followed by Bruce Woodford (02:53:58) and Samantha Allen (02:59:10).
Now on to some impressive marathon running. Firstly, we crossed the Humber Bridge to Boston, where David Meilhan was the first Beverley runner to finish the flat but very windy Lincolnshire marathon course in 03:18:08, followed by Jody Horth in 3:20:10. The scenic and challenging Charm Bracelet Marathon in North Yorkshire was completed by Sarah Harris-Smith in 06:00:15. On to Brighton where the marathon saw
Usha Chapman continued to demonstrate her excellent pacing skills bringing in the 6:30 runners in 6:29:20, while in Paris, Harry Schofield completed the scenic marathon course in 2:55:22, followed by Josh Green (02:59:00), Lucy Berriman (03:57:45) and Carol Botterill (04:20:07).
The Juniors have had a very successful month with some great performances and some podiums at the Humber Open Meeting in Scunthorpe. In the U14G 800m - Addien Baker (1st): 2:42.28, Ella Barry (2nd): 2:54.88, Phoebe Lowe (3rd): 2:55.38, Alice Jorna: 3:07.78; the U14B 800m - Xavier Meilhan: 2:42.23; U16B 800m - Oliver Kirby: 2:31.01; U14G 100m - Alice Jorna: 16.07; U16B 100m - Fraser Pratt: 13.65; U18G
100m - Poppy Simpson (1st): 13.06; U18G 200m - Poppy Simpson (1st): 26.67 and the U18B 3000m - Jacob Jorna (2nd): 9:56.25.
The iconic Pittaway Beverley’s 10kms race takes place on Sunday 10th May. The event is now full, but entries are open for the Viking Pest Control Walkington 10kms and the Westwood Mortgage Advisers Walkington fun run which takes place on Friday 11th July.
