Beverley Golf Club Unveils Two New Greens

Friday 17th April after several months of construction work, Beverley and East Riding Golf Club unveiled their two new Greens on holes 4 and 7.

Gordon Duncan, Beverley & East Riding past president conducted the ceremony for the official opening on the 4th Tee, welcoming all the invited guests, members and onlookers whilst giving a quick over view of the reason for the alterations to course, along with acknowledgement to the Greens Director, Andy Greetham for his assistance, David Norton for his knowledge and supportive work, leading to the appointment of Fine Turf, the contractors who carried out the work, along with the support of the committee and members of Beverley and East Riding Golf Club, whilst making note of the Pasture Masters who understood and supported the proposals and construction of the new greens.

The unveiling of two new golf greens marks an exciting development for Beverley and East Riding Golf Club, the old 4th and 7th Greens had suffered over time being located so close to the trees.

The 4th hole, a long par 3, apart from the green issue, was shortened by some 35 yards to make the hole safer to play with it being close and parallel to Newbald Road, decisions made to protect and enhance the course for future.

Andy Greetham, Greens Director commented, "the course with these changes have enhanced both its playability and appeal. Action taken looking ahead to maintain the high standard of the course, carefully designed with modern turf technology and strategic shaping".

Current Club Captain Martin Baltazar added, "these greens provide the consistent putting surface, in line with the other 16 holes and offers a new test to all levels of Golfers".

Theo Blake The Club Professional mentioned, "the iconic 7th stroke index 1, will now present a new challenge and will test any level of golfer, the new greens and the course will benefit from the relocation of the greens".

David Norton who joined the club as a junior, and held the position of green keeper for 30 years plus, gave his expert knowledge to the club, which lead to the work being carried out with the contractor Fine Turf who work to the very high standard Beverley Golf Club demand. David was given the honour to tee off first, "No Pressure", promptly showed everyone the way forward.

Gordon Duncan concluded, " the new greens introduce fresh challenges. Subtle slopes and with varied pin positions, will demand greater precision and course management. Even experienced golfers must adapt their approach, making each round more engaging and competitive".

Andy Greetham was delighted to win the prestigous "first", lighted hearted near pin challenge, was presented with a sleeve of Golf Balls from Ben Gardiner the Beverley and East Riding Marketing Manager.
