Car Park Pay By Phone 1

Residents and visitors can now use their mobile phones to pay for parking in East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s car parks.

The council has introduced new ‘cashless’ payment methods to give people more choice and convenience when paying for a parking space or buying a parking permit.

The council has signed up to the MiPermit system which allows people to use their smartphones or computers to pay for parking at any of the council’s car parks.

Car park users can now pay by:

Text – by sending a text message following the instructions displayed on any car park ticket machine.
App – by downloading the MiPermit app to their smartphone from the Apple Appstore or Google Play Store and register their details. Then simply choose the car park location, length of stay and pay online.
Website – by logging on to the website www.wanttopark.com/eastriding to register your details, choose the location, length of stay and pay online.

Using these methods people will not need to display a ticket in their car windscreen.

Another advantage of the new system is people can pay up to seven days in advance.

On normal transactions MiPermit will charge a 10p processing fee on top of the council's normal car park charge, in line with industry standards.

People can still continue to pay by cash or card at any of the ticket machines.

Renewing and buying permits

From now on residents will also use the same website or app when they renew or buy a new residents’ parking permit or a season ticket.

Using www.wanttopark.com/eastriding and the MiPermit app people will buy a ‘virtual permit’ with no need to display one in their car.

Car number plates are entered on the system immediately after someone has paid using the new methods so parking enforcement officers know who has paid.

Later this year the council will also be introducing an online system to replace the existing visitor scratchcards which are used by residents, hotels and guest houses in controlled parking zones.

Councillor Andy Burton, the council’s portfolio holder for planning, highways and transportation, said: “By embracing this new technology we’re bringing our car parks into the 21st century and making it much easier for people to pay the way they want.

“People won’t need to have the right change or cards in their pockets to be able to park, just their mobile phone.”
