It is your opportunity this weekend to get involved and enjoy the Walkington Ukulele Festival.
Don’t miss the amazing Ukulele Festival in Walkington, the event was so successful last year that it is returning for a third year with some great guest artists and ukulele enthusiasts coming to Walkington from across the UK.
The festival with BIG WUF (Warm, Uplifting and Friendly) is taking place on 4th (Friday Evening) and 5th July (Saturday Afternoon and Evening Concerts).
The Friday Evening Curtain Raiser (4th July) is taking place at the Ferguson Fawsitt Arms from 7pm and features an Open Mic Session and performances from Buzz Cadillac and the Lightning Rods, Renegades and headline artist Mark Stivvy.
An amazing array of talent will be on show on Saturday (5th July) with six local ukulele bands and two superb professional ukulele artists, Bowtie and Petal and the award-winning Opera-lele. There will also be workshops to improve your skills, Strum Along sessions and a ukulele showcase at The Barrel Inn. All Saturday concerts and workshops are taking place in Walkington Village Hall.

Local Bands: Red Sky Ukuleles, Barely Awake, Hull Ukulele Group
Saturday Evening Concert: 7pm – 10.30pm
Headline Band: Opera-lele
Local Bands: Hornsea Ukulele Group, Sunshine Strummers, Assembly Line
Tickets for the public are priced at £25 for the full weekend. Tickets are also available for individual concerts as follows:
Friday Evening Curtain Raiser £6,
Saturday (Afternoon or Evening Concert) £12 per session, £22 for both concerts.
Children are free. Non-uke players are very welcome and will love it!
The festival is raising funds for The Stephen Hughes Foundation, ‘Saving Young Hearts’ through research into the heart disease Myocarditis and The Foundation’s Music and Sports Development Grants for children of primary school age.
Through its efforts the charity has now raised over £95,000. The funding has supported: -
- Over 90 grants awarded to primary schools and community groups for coaching, equipment and transport costs.
- Over 5000 children of primary school age have benefited from Grants.
- Musical activities supported include ukulele, guitars, percussion, glockenspiels, recording equipment and a community choir.
- Sports supported include tennis, table tennis, cycling, boxercise, hockey, boccia, football, rugby league and union, martial arts, skateboarding, swimming, judo, gymnastics, orienteering and basketball.
