Graham Stuart Mp Receives Update On Cherry Tree Community Centre From Community Champion Jo Ramsay

Local MP Graham Stuart met one of his Community Champions, Jo Ramsay, to receive an update on her fantastic work at Cherry Tree Community Centre in Beverley.

This month Graham launched his search to find Community Champions across Beverley and Holderness. He often hears stories about people doing incredible things for their communities and wants to celebrate these individuals.

Jo Ramsay is the Manager of the Cherry Tree Centre and has worked there for eighteen years. Located in Beverley, the Centre was founded to help vulnerable residents including providing food vouchers for the East Yorkshire Food Bank, running a Youth Club and giving free advice to local people on money management, employment, benefits and housing.

Cherry Tree Centre recently received the great news from East Riding of Yorkshire Council that they have permission to progress with the next stage towards their youth club’s new home. This is possible thanks to the generosity of both Jackie Bowes, The High Sheriff of East Riding, who donated three mobile cabins to be used as their home, and Beverley Rugby Club who are allowing the cabins to be located at the side of their clubhouse. This will make a huge difference to young people in Beverley.

During his visit Graham also met Lisa Voase and Helen Rawdon MBE. Lisa is the Senior Advisor who supports people who are in crisis with debts, housing and welfare benefits. Helen is the Community Pantry Leader and assists almost 200 people each week to access food and other essential items. Both are amazing assets to the Centre.

Graham Stuart said: “Jo does a brilliant job in helping vulnerable people in Beverley in so many ways and I was pleased to learn she has received the planning permission green light to give a home to the Cherry Tree Youth Club in mobile cabins at the Rugby Club. This will provide a safe space for young people to socialise and take part in activities.”

Jo Ramsay, manager of Cherry Tree Centre, commented: “It was great to catch up with Graham and tell him how we are continuing to support the most vulnerable people in and around Beverley. Graham’s support for our work both now and over the last few years has been invaluable. Now we are one step closer to achieving our goal for a new home for our Youth Club we will be able to support as many young people in our area as possible.”
