Andy Johnson Drama School Returns with FREE Drama Workshops

The Andy Johnson Drama School will return in the form of two FREE online workshops, August 10th and 11th.

These workshops are aimed at young people aged 15-to-21, and will be live streamed online as an exciting programme of invaluable drama training, suitable for all passionate young performers and directors.

Made possible by the generous charity of the I AM Fund, these workshops will include an intensive skills-based programme designed to help students develop their acting techniques and explore different types of theatre and stagecraft.

The workshops will provide students with a 'taster' course designed to hone a wide-range of skills. Students will be encouraged to become more self-aware by challenging their fears, promoting generosity by working in a group and commending courage.

We hope young people from all backgrounds will benefit from these workshops, and will think about enrolling in our full summer courses next year, perhaps applying for some of our bursary places.

Who is Andy?

Andy Johnson is an actor, writer and drama teacher who's taught at East 15, Mountview, Middlesex University and the University of Nevada. Currently Director-in-residence at Hurtwood House, he's helped students get into drama schools, including: RADA, LAMDA, Bristol, Guildhall, Mountview and more.

Alumni of Andy's school have gone onto some brilliant things. Evie Gutteridge recently found an agent and performed her very own one-woman stage production, titled Spoonface Steinberg. ERT's artistic director, Adrian Rawlins remembers spotting her talent early on:

“After a few days of support from Andy, we started to see that behind [Evie’s] shy exterior there was a young lady with a genuine interest in acting. She was starting to taste the 'fresh air' of not feeling so inhibited.

“For me, as a director, it's incredibly rewarding to see the potential of a young actor start to emerge like that. Through her work at ERT, Evie now has the courage to jump!”

Public Campaign for the Arts Update

Early July, the government announced £1.57 billion in arts sector funding. Almost, three weeks on there have been no announcements regarding how or when this funding will be distributed.

As more and more theatres start redundancies, including several significant theatres in our area, there remains a significant amount of uncertainty. 

To help the public understand, Public Campaign For The Arts have created a list of 10 things the Government still needs to do to protect arts and culture in the UK.
