Road improvements to roundabouts

Fri 13th March 2015

Work to repair and improve the roads around two roundabouts in the Beverley area is due to start this month.

Resurfacing work will take place on the A1079 Killingwoldgraves roundabout starting on Wednesday 25 March and is expected to take seven days to complete, weather permitting.

All work will be carried out at night - between the hours of 8pm and 6am - to reduce disruption to traffic.

The A1079 Hull to York route will remain open at all times under two-way traffic controls. All other routes will be diverted via the south and east of Beverley.

The following routes will be closed to all traffic during the night time works: A1035 Dog Kennel Lane (to Cherry Burton), A1174 York Road (to Beverley) and C60 Killingwoldgraves Lane (to Walkington).

Further resurfacing work will take place at a second roundabout - the A164 Woodmansey Mile roundabout - starting on Tuesday 7 April.

That scheme is expected to take four days to complete, weather permitting, between the hours of 9.15am and 7pm each day. Night working was considered but not felt appropriate because it is mainly a residential area.

The A164 route will remain open at all times under traffic control. The Woodmansey Mile route will be closed to traffic during the works and a diversion will be in place via Lincoln Way.

The works have been timed to avoid the morning rush hour and to take place while the nearby Keldmarsh School is closed for the Easter holidays.

Cllr Chris Matthews, the council’s portfolio holder for infrastructure, highways and emergency planning, said: “Both schemes are being carried out after the opening of the Beverley Southern Relief Road, which will lead to much less traffic using the A164 Queensgate route, and a more suitable route for diverted traffic during the Killingwoldgraves roundabout road works.

“Every effort has been taken to reduce disruption and we would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience with these essential roadworks.”
